Are you one of those people who always gets caught up in situations where you’ve turned into the bad person because you made a promise that didn’t exactly seem like one to you but was definitely a promise to the other person?
After saying you will do something for your friend, something came up and you couldn’t and now he doesn’t trust you anymore and has probably told one or two people that you cannot be trusted.
Here’s a complete guide to stop making promises in a way that you don’t get caught.
HOW TO MAKE BETTER PROMISES
- LEARN TO SAY ‘NO’
Stop saying ‘Yes’ to everything and start picking the things you agree to. It’s not going to be easy but it will save you a lot of apologies. Learn this word and get yourself out of the “You be scammer” category.
- THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE A PROMISE
Before you say yes to a request, think about it. Can I do it? Do I have the time? Do I have the energy? Is there something else I have to do on that day?
- KEEP TRACK
You have notes, calendars and reminders. Make sure you call on the man-made forces and maybe even call on God to help you stay informed and on track.
- BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC
Don’t just drop vague answers and promises. Be specific and clear. Clarity saves you a lot of explanation if I’m being honest. Say it the way it is. Check out this post to see what I mean
